October 29, 2020: Maybe you’re like the 66 million Americans who have already voted. If so…
Haven’t voted yet? Perhaps you’ve still got that mail or absentee ballot sitting on that corner of the kitchen table where your mail hangs out until you sort through it?
That’s cool–we’re not judging or shaming you.
The great thing is, it’s NOT TOO LATE to vote! It is, however, too late to throw that ballot in the mail.
Election Day is just five days away. That means that putting it in a USPS mailbox means taking a big risk. Mail is running slow in many places, and while some states allow any ballots postmarked by November 3 to be counted, others require ballots to be at election offices by the time the polls close on Election Day, and in still others–like Pennsylvania–whether ballots received after Election Day will count or not is still an open question…one that is likely to be decided by the Supreme Court.
To reiterate: It’s too late to return ballots through the mail. But you can–and should–return your ballot to your local elections office, polling place, or secure drop box by this weekend.
Each state has different rules and deadlines for returning mail and absentee ballots, so make sure you understand your ballot return options–and whenever possible, choose the one that leaves the least to chance.
Already mailed in or dropped off your ballot? You can track it here.
If you’ve already voted, now is a great time to maximize your impact by signing up for a phone or text bank this weekend to fight disinformation and help folks get everything they need to vote!
