I made this small video addressing domestic violence because it’s never okay, it never stops, it won’t go quietly away. We have to speak up about domestic violence…Silence = Death

When I was writing Kayley’s story, a three-part series that you can find at TheWellProject.org,
I was going through some of the worst times in my life. I was being abused mentally and physically much more than a person in my opinion can handle alone; also, at the time my child was hurting.
The times have changed and I took back my life and she has hers. Reminiscence of the abuse and scars are still visible.
In Honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, I would like to say that when I realized I was not alone, I began to become empowered. I just hadn’t realized how to start. With the help of my community of sisters, I was able to reach out and slowly process how this trauma could be used for good instead of being a victim. I stood up to my perpetrators and received some closure and redemption.
Please try not to give up. Seek help. Strategize a safe way to exit, plan for a safe escape, know your rights and use them in solidarity.
