Biography: Waheedah Shabazz-El is a 57 year old African American Muslim woman and retired postal worker who was diagnosed with AIDS in 2003. Shabazz-El is a founding abd advisory member of Positive Women’s Network – USA. She also coordinates PWN-Philly. Currently employed as an HIV Counselor/Tester at Philadelphia Fight, Shabazz-El is also a Steering Committee Member for the HIV Prevention Justice Alliance (PJA) and Chair person for the Community Advisory Board at the University of Pennsylvania, Center for AIDS Research, CFAR. As a member the National HIV/AIDS Strategy Working Group, Shabazz-El was invited to the White House on July 13, 2010 for a reception where she met President Barack Obama. Less than two weeks later Shabazz-El represented PWN by delivering the closing address at the XVIII International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria. She currently sits on the International AIDS Society’s Joint Programme Committee for the upcoming International AIDS Conference to take place in July 2012 in Washington, DC.
