“Where do I begin in even trying to describe this empowering, engaging and amazingly awesome women’s leadership summit? There were over 250 women living with HIV from 30 states, Canada and the U.S. Virgin Islands gathered in unity sharing a safe space where we were able to learn, share, laugh, cry and rejuvenate. We had the opportunity to participate in numerous workshops facilitated by women who are vivacious leaders. These workshops helped us to build our skills in leadership and learn about our current local, state and federal policy concerns that affect women living with HIV. We developed a better understanding of social justice and human rights for women living with HIV while also having the opportunity to bond as a sisterhood and get to know one another on more intimate levels,” describes Alicia Diggs of North Carolina.

“A month has passed since Speak Up! 2016, and I am still feeling the effects,” reflects Asha Molock of Pennsylvania. “On brisk mornings in the Northeast, I fondly remember the humid air of Florida, the warm ocean and the sand between my toes as I jogged on the beach. I can still see the smiling faces and friendly greetings of my PWN sisters as we walked pass each other on our way to the various workshops. Sometimes not really knowing one another but still feeling the sisterhood, solidarity and connection. Since I have returned, I’ve spent some time reflecting on the workshops that I attended. A great deal of what I heard and saw has stayed on my mind and I’m still in processing mode.”

“What would I tell another woman diagnosed with HIV about the PWN Speak Up Summit? I would tell her that it was the most refreshing, vivid and comforting conference and will give her hope in so many ways,” says Davina Conner of Colorado. “It will help in so many ways by allowing her to find her place and who she is. It will lift up her spirits and make her cry, but her cries will be of joy knowing that she is not alone in this fight. I would tell her she will find sister love among so many other women who care so much about her.” Watch the video Davina made of SPEAK UP! 2016 above or here.
