Barb Cardell Joins PWN-USA as Training & TA Director

Positive Women’s Network – USA is thrilled to welcome the newest member of our staff! Many of you already know our new Training and Technical Assistance Director, Barb Cardell.

Barb is an educator, activist, and advocate. She has been involved with PWN since joining the steering committee in 2009. When PWN created its Board of Directors in 2013, she joined the board and served as the board chair for 6 years.

Engaged in local, statewide, national and global HIV issues and currently serving on the governor-appointed, statewide Colorado Alliance for HIV Prevention and Education, Barb co-founded PWN-USA Colorado. She is a founding member and has served as the vice-chair of the U.S. Persons Living with HIV Caucus, now in an Emeritus role. She was the legislative chair of the Colorado Organizations Responding to AIDS (CORA) and led HIV criminalization reform which modernized HIV statutes in Colorado and repealed two criminal statutes that targeted people living with HIV.

In her new role at PWN, Barb will develop, coordinate, evaluate, and oversee our training and leadership development strategy.

Advancing Universal Health Care

Hurry! March 1 Is the Deadline to Apply for the PWN Policy Fellowship!

Are you a woman or person of trans experience living with HIV? Are you ready to take your advocacy to the next level and prepare to step into leadership roles? Consider applying for the PWN-USA Policy Fellowship!

Over the course of the 9-month fellowship, policy fellows will:

  • Expand their understanding of the structure of government and how federal policy is developed, implemented and funded;
  • learn key frameworks for advocacy interventions;
  • learn to analyze policy;
  • deepen their understanding of strategies to effect policy change, including grassroots advocacy, effective coalition building,
  • and learn to build and maintain relationships with policymakers and stakeholders who have influence over the policy-making process.

The fellowship is open to all women living with HIV, including women of trans experience. We especially encourage applications from those who are: young, Black, Latinx, immigrant, LGB, trans and gender nonconforming, low-income, and/or reside in the South. All applicants should possess a strong desire to effect meaningful change in the lives of other women living with HIV to apply. Deadline to apply is March 1.
